Birkhead Mountains Wilderness - Robbins Branch Trailhead
About this place
More details
The lesser-used Robbins Branch Trailhead on Lassiter Mill Road provides quiet access to the Birkhead Mountains Wilderness in Uwharrie National Forest, NC — one of the oldest mountain ranges in North America. Three trailheads serve the wilderness (Thornburg Farm, Robbins Branch, and Talbott's Branch); this Lassiter Mill Rd entry sees far less traffic than the popular Thornburg Farm side. Dispersed camping is permitted 300 feet from the trailhead or 100 feet off any marked trail — no permit required. Entry road is rough but passable in a standard vehicle. From Asheboro, take Hwy 49 South about 6 miles, turn right on Science Hill Rd, then left on Lassiter Mill Rd and head south.
