Baxter State Park requires permits and is fully controlled. Outside of that, Maine's public lands and unorganized territories offer surprisingly accessible free camping. The 100-Mile Wilderness section of the AT corridor is the big draw for backcountry campers.

Every listing below links to a full location page with a live weather forecast, a map, and nearby outdoor spots within 8 miles — trails to hike, swimming holes to cool off in, and local events. No other free camping directory shows you what's around the site. Trek4Free does.
